Looking Ahead

looking ahead Pictures, Images and Photos

The other night I came home on heavily traveled road.  As I drove, I found myself looking in the rear view mirror a lot. I should have been concentrating on what was ahead. Instead I kept looking back, as if to reassure myself all was well behind me. As I consider the events of that night, I realize it would have made more sense to focus on what was ahead, instead of taking valuable time to look behind.

Do you ever spend too much time looking back, and rob yourself of opportunities to see what is waiting in front of you? God prepares us to follow Him. He invites us to keep our eyes focused, as we move ahead. We often have difficulty, because we dwell too much on the past, and forget to imagine what might be waiting around the corner.

God longs for us to keep our eyes focused on Him. Many will face uncertainty, and have trouble looking ahead. God wants to show us which way to go. He longs for us to stay on course. He wants us to keep on going.

We might occasionally look back, to appreciate how far we’ve come. But, if we continue looking back and forget why we must look ahead, we miss out on opportunities to discover new things about ourselves, and allow God to move us toward His will.

The Bible says, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14 NIV

As you travel along the road God has chosen, perhaps you will stop looking in the rear view mirror as often. God will help you move past what is behind, and clearly help you see what's ahead. And, He will open your heart to recognize there will be many blessings to come…

God is near,

Nan

  1. Very good thoughts. The past can be a servant, motivating us to do better in the future. But we should never allow it to be a master, limiting our potential successes in the future.
May God's approving smile shine in your heart today.
