Capturing Kindness...

kindness Pictures, Images and Photos

As we journey ahead in our lives, we sometimes carry baggage filled with many different emotions. It becomes heavy as we allow worry, fear and doubt to find their way to our hearts. We often forget God uses others to help us, and remind us we don’t have to carry the weight of the world on our own.

Everyone needs compassion and the kindness of others to help carry the load. The Bible says “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” (Proverbs 12:25) Kindness is sharing with a heart of good will.

We try to follow The Golden Rule, but often don’t take time to recognize the needs of others. We are a society which has learned to look out for “number one”. It’s easy to become absorbed in our own lives, and forget how it feels to truly care about those who long to discover the kindness of a friend.

When was the last time you asked, “How are you?” when you greeted someone? Did you take time to really listen to what they had to share, or did you simply use those words in your daily rituals of routine?

Sometimes we forget the simplest acts of kindness are often most appreciated. We can’t always know how God will use us to show His compassion to the world, but we can be prepared to allow Him to use us. He can help us recognize when we have been blessed, and give us opportunities to share kindness with those who understand the reward of a grateful heart.

One evening I helped an elderly gentleman at the funeral home where I often assist with visitations. I pushed him in a wheelchair, and waited while he paid his respects to the family. It was a touching moment when he later looked up with tears in his eyes and said, “Thank you so much for your kindness.”

We never know how God will use us to reach others. But, as we become available for Him to guide us in His will, He shows us how to share simple acts of kindness for His glory.

The elderly man said, “God bless you”, as he smiled and slowly walked out the door with his walker. “And, God bless you”, I said as I waved to him and realized his appreciation of such a simple act.

God gives us opportunity to capture kindness. It is not the superficial dialog of words which are spoken in rituals of routine. It is unique opportunity to share the same kindness of compassion Christ has shown to us.

Christ taught us how we should clothe ourselves with compassion and kindness. Col. 3:12 says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

Perhaps it’s time to rid ourselves of the baggage we carry and make room for God to fill our hearts with His love. When we take time to consider the needs of others and reach out to them with kindness, we begin to understand the journey ahead will be much easier when the weight of our load is shared.

God is near. He loves YOU,

Nan

  3. I just wondered if you have someone to listen to you and strengthen you when you feel weak. You give us so much; everyone should have someone, including those like you who make us feel like someone truly cares about us.
