Ready, Set , Wait...

When I was young, we often played outdoor games on warm summer evenings. The older boys loved to race, and plan obstacle courses for me and my friends. It was always fun to see who would be the first to make it to the finish line.

The boys would get everything prepared. We would line up, and just as we were ready to move ahead, one boy would usually yell, “Ready, set…wait!”  It was frustrating to have to stop, so he could make adjustments in the course he’d planned.

Sometimes we feel prepared for the race. We ready ourselves to move ahead on our own, but forget God has not told us to go. It’s hard to wait, and trust in the One who has plans to provide for our future. We long to complete the course in front of us, but are not prepared to deal with obstacles which often get in the way.

God knows the desires of our hearts. He needs to make adjustments, so the course we take will lead us toward His will. " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

“Faith is willing not to have what God is not willing to give.” We cannot change what God has already chosen for our lives. But, we can find peace where we stand, and discover how God will gently pave the way for us to press on…

I pray God will give peace, when we cannot run. I pray He will give an attitude of patience, as we wait on Him, and remember He is in control of our lives. God will reveal His will to our hearts, when they have opened wide enough to understand what it will take to cross the finish line.

God is hoping we anticipate the prize which is waiting. When He has readied us to move us ahead,  He will say, “Ready, set, go.” He will  guide us ahead, in His time and for His purpose, and show us there is benefit in waiting , before we decide to run.

God is near,
Nan
