~A note from Nan...Today is our annual Christmas Pageant. I thought I would re-post this piece I wrote several years ago...

The Christmas season is hectic for teachers of young children. There’s much to be done in a small amount of time. Anticipation grows, as the children share their excitement and practice for our Christmas Pageant.

We portray the birth of Jesus and have opportunities to learn how He came to our world. We practice every day and delight as the children learn their parts and become more comfortable in their roles.

I observe a lot from my seat behind the piano. I hear the angels sing praises to God and watch as Mary and Joseph remember what to do. I shed a tear when Mary tenderly kisses the baby and gently laugh as the Wise Men present their gifts with crooked crowns. I consider how the parents will feel to see the children perform beautiful offerings of love.

In twenty minutes of purpose, God provides perfect PEACE. The children begin to embrace the Christmas Story and understand it is so much more than Santa and toys. They become interested to perform and can finally sing “Mary had a Baby” without tripping on the stairs.

God provides PEACE when we humble our hearts and recognize how to find it. He guides us to the manger and helps us welcome the love of Jesus. He helps us feel the power of STRENGTH, even in the midst of chaos. And He blesses us when we love like the children.

Loved ones will attend our program. They will take time from hectic schedules and witness the JOY of CHRISTMAS through the eyes of a child. It won’t matter if an angel forgets her lines or the shepherds sing out of tune. There will abundant JOY in the hearts of those who will be reminded; JESUS truly is the best gift of Christmas.

Dear God, Thank you for moments to feel the presence of Your holiness. As we prepare for Christmas, open our eyes so we will clearly see how to welcome Jesus with our humble hearts of praise. Help us love like the children; with gladness and tender joy! As we share about His birth, help us always remember; PEACE will come, if we seek You with all of our hearts and choose to receive the gift of Your greatness. Amen
