A Precious Prayer

I have a very active class of three year old children. One little boy is always busy. But when lunchtime arrives, he takes time to bow his head, close his eyes and share a heartfelt prayer he says every day…“God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food. Amen“

Lunchtime routines are hectic. It might be difficult to hear his quiet words of gratitude, but I do hear them every day. I know God hears them too. It‘s touching to see his classmates respond, as He leads them in prayer and opens his grateful heart of praise.

Children stop and listen. With tiny hands folded, they take special moments to share prayers which have become a daily offering of thanks. They patiently wait to be fed, and find great purpose in moments to pray.

We can learn a lot from those who understand God is deserving of our praise. Simple prayers from the heart allow opportunities to become available to God and commune with Him. Moments spent with God provide joy. There are no limitations of when we are allowed to pray. God hears our prayers, and is pleased when we begin by acknowledging Him as our mighty God.

God prepares us to come before His presence, and receive what He will provide. He shows us how to partner with Him when we pray. Prayer is our expression of fellowship with God. If we truly trust in Him, He can help us find our way to His presence, even in hectic moments when we forget He is near.

Each day at lunch, one little boy takes time to remind us to pray. He opens his heart to help us experience closeness with God. “God is great, God is good.” This simple prayer leads us toward a beautiful prayer of praise, and helps us remember the One who will always provide everything we need.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
