When the Bowl is Too Full...

I recently made Banana Bread which required many ingredients. As I added them together, I realized my bowl was much too small. Batter overflowed, and created a mound of mess on my counter.

It’s impossible to add what we need, if our bowls are too full. Each contributing cup overflows, and ingredients cannot properly be mixed together.

There are ingredients which overflow in our lives. We add worry, doubt, fear and sin. We don’t allow room for God to mix His love in us. We forget He needs opportunity to fill us with what we need. And, we forget to open our hearts wide enough to receive His love.

I once heard someone say, “God doesn’t send anyone away empty, only those who are already too full of themselves.” I hope we are never too full to allow God to fill us with what He has planned for us to receive.

God can pour His presence into our bowl of life. He can show us how to open our hearts wide enough, and be filled with the only ingredients we will ever need. God will find a way to blend His love in us, even if He has to show us how to make room.

Scripture: Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Prayer: Lord, We are thankful you have been patient with us, as we have learned to empty our bowl of sin. Change our hearts, oh Lord. Help us trust we will be filled by your grace. Help us find room in our hearts to discover there is hope in you, as You mix us with everything we need. Amen
