"I Think I Can"

God's strength Pictures, Images and Photos

The Little Red Caboose is a book we often read at my preschool. The children love hearing “I think I can, I think I can” read over and over. They join together in unison to repeat those four little words, which always seem to build excitement in the classroom.

For several years, I have used many different expressions to try and motivate the children to stay on task. “Try, try, try, even when it’s hard” is spoken gently, when I want to encourage them to  become confident in the abilities God has given.

There will be moments in our lives when we feel we're not capable of doing our best. We will lack confidence, and become afraid to allow God to lead us where He wants us to arrive. But, the Bible says, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

“God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.” He pulls us from our every day lives of routine, and creates a passion to discover His great plan and develop a heart of content.

God can do what we cannot. He purposefully teaches us how good it feels to be led. He places joy in our hearts, and renews our strength, as we complete His good work, and understand the reward of His love. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

We can learn a lot from the little train who pulled His weight across the mountain and said, “I think I can.” But, we must keep chugging ahead, and faithfully trust God will help us stay on task. And, we must continue to believe we will never travel alone, as we serve Him with a grateful heart of thanks.

God is near and He loves YOU,

Nan

  1. "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose."
    - Philippians 2:13
"I think I can" becomes "I know I can" when we recognize what we are attempting is according to God's good purpose.

  2. One of the best things we can do for another person is to help them believe they can do something. Sometimes, all they need is the encouragment.

  3. It's good to read the comments here. When God chooses us to do His work, He helps us recognize when we have been prepared to confidently grow with Him."I think I can" becomes "I know I can!" Thank you for reminding us...:)

  4. We all have limitations. We have to be careful we do not expect too much of ourselves. We might be disappointed. We have to be real about what we can and cannot do.
God can do everything. He has no limits.

  5. Yes, God can do everything we cannot. I love to consider how He gives us strength to do things we never could have imagined. As we let God guide, He brings peace to our hearts, even when we cannot accomplish what we had hoped...

I love the scripture Philippians 2:13. Thanks for sharing!
