"It's Just The Way God Made Her"

When our oldest son turned three, we had a party and welcomed several guests. One was an adult of very short stature. When she arrived one of the children asked, “Why is she so short? “ Andy’s answer was simple, heartfelt and mature in his three year old response. “It’s just the way God made her,” he said. “She’s good!”

We can learn a lot from young children who understand God created us. They don’t worry about differences which make us unique. They simply know how to love unconditionally, and appreciate what it means to be good.

God has lovingly taken time to create us for his great purpose. He teaches us how to love one another, but sometimes we don’t. Often, we see only through critical eyes which have learned to focus on our interpretations of what is good.

God loves us. He examines our heart of attitude toward all of mankind. He allows us to learn more about ourselves, as he shows us how to appreciate the wonderful things which make us different.

The Bible says, Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put love, which binds them altogether in perfect unity…  Colossians 3:12-15 (NIV)

Perhaps we can learn to love unconditionally, with a heart that speaks “that‘s just the way God made her.” When we learn to value those around us, God will honor the virtues of our hearts, and remind us we are all welcome to be loved by him.

Dear God, Thank you for creating us and reminding us we are special to you. Teach us how to love. Help us learn how to live in unity, and develop a heart of compassion for those who will surely see You through our love. Amen

  1. According to the verses from Colossians, all who are chosen by God are "dearly loved" by Him. Those who are dearly loved by God should dearly love others, no matter the differences. God's love frees us to bear with our differences and understand the things that make us the same.
