Finding A Heart of Thanks

Pilgrims shared a meal with Native Americans who taught them how to live in the new land. They had reason to share with one another and supply offerings of grateful hearts. Through hardships, loss of loved ones and very little to sustain, they managed to thank God for their blessings. Strength, courage and faith allowed them to survive the hardships they had to endure.

We can all relate to hardships. They create difficult circumstances which rob us of opportunities to feel grateful. It‘s hard to feel blessed when we’re not feeling thankful, and looking forward to a day which is meant for thanksgiving.

Consider the first Thanksgiving. Pilgrims thanked God, even though their lives were filled with struggles and challenge. Faith led them to a new land and allowed them to rely on God’s provisions.

God provided for the Pilgrims. He heard their prayers, as they bravely persevered. He provided for their needs. God provides for us as we faithfully move ahead in our lives.

Dr. Billy Graham once wrote, "Nothing turns us into bitter, selfish, dissatisfied people more quickly than an ungrateful heart. And nothing will do more to restore contentment and joy of our salvation than a true spirit of thankfulness."

As we face challenge, it’s good to be reminded God is with us. Even though our lives change, God does not. His presence is constant. He alone opens our hearts to discover His perfect grace.

“God guides and provides“, as we learn to trust in Him. He can help us recognize the many blessings He has already provided. We must be willing to take time to open our hearts wide enough, and allow Him to help us discover how it feels to truly embrace a grateful heart of thanks.

God is near. He loves YOU.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Nan
