I Know How You Feel

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NIV

Often, we forget God sent His Son to the world, knowing He would die a horrible death. Jesus felt more than we will ever know, and experienced many forms of emotional and physical pain. He was beaten, mocked and forced to wear a crown of thorns on His tender head. He was spit on and demanded to carry the cross which would hold the agony of His pain. Nails were hammered through His flesh. And, those who did not know Him as Lord of their lives screamed, “Crucify Him!“

Videos portray this event, and we turn our eyes away. We see images of Christ suffering in a way that makes us feel guilty, unworthy of His lovingly sacrifice and grace. But, God never turns His eyes away from us. He knows our sufferings and sees each tear that falls.

As we prepare our hearts to remember Christ’s loving sacrifice, God longs for us to understand, “It was not the nails that held Him to the cross. It was His love for you and me.” God wants us to recognize we are being held by His presence of strength. He covers us with the warmth of His well being, and lovingly takes our pain. He weaves new life through His blanket of hope, and whispers to our weary hearts of wonder, “You are my child, I know how you feel.”

Dear God, Thank you for this season of hope to remember Your loving sacrifice. You know the heart of our weariness. Help us faithfully remember You will lift us from our place of pain and help us recognize the wholeness of Your beautiful grace. We will turn our eyes on You, and forever stay focused on Your everlasting love. Amen

  1. I love the Chris Rice song "Sometimes Love" from his "Deep Enough to Dream" cd. I hope you and your readers will listen to this song if you can.

I especially love these words in the song:

"Sometimes love has to drive a nail into its own hand...."

God bless you today and every day.
