While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Matthew 26: 26-29

“Just as physical food and drink nourish our bodies, Jesus’ death and resurrection give eternal life to our souls.” We gratefully consider His loving sacrifice and humble our hearts, as we partake of Holy Communion and consider the Last Supper…

Jesus passed a loaf of bread to His followers saying, “This is my body.” He shared a cup of wine saying, “This is my blood.” He knew He would die. But the love of His faithfulness endured and He reminded His disciples to love one another.

Jesus was betrayed and denied by those who said they loved Him. He washed the feet of His disciples in an act of love and spoke about His death. He demonstrated this act of intimacy to help them understand His resurrection and return to God. And, as we consider the events of that day, we are humbled to feel connected to Jesus.

As we prepare for Easter, Christ helps us experience the intimacy He shares with God. And as we draw closer to Him, we begin to understand how to commit ourselves to the One who continues to serve us as we serve one another.

Jesus prayed at the Mount of Olives. And, in the place where His heart was opened to the Father, He was arrested and taken away to be crucified! This is a day to humble our hearts with gratitude and take time to thank God for our precious Savior, Jesus.

Dear God, Thank you for Jesus. We are humbled to remember why we must love one another and open our hearts to the power of Your will. We will gratefully take time to draw nearer to You, as we connect with Jesus and welcome Him with a servant’s heart. Amen
