“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Pilgrims shared a meal with Native Americans who taught them how to live in the new land. They had reason to share with one another and supply offerings of grateful hearts. Through hardships, loss of loved ones and little to sustain, they managed to thank God for their blessings. Strength, courage and faith allowed them to survive what they had to endure.

We can all relate to hardships. They can create difficult circumstances that don’t allow us to feel thankful. It‘s hard to feel blessed when life pulls us down and we have trouble welcoming the blessing of a grateful heart. And it’s hard to look forward to a day meant for thanksgiving when worry tries to steal our joy.

Consider the first Thanksgiving… Pilgrims thanked God, even though their lives were burdened with struggles and doubt. Faith led them to a new land and allowed them to rely on God’s provisions. God provided for the Pilgrims. He heard their prayers, as they bravely persevered. He provided for their needs. God provides for us as we faithfully move ahead in our lives and TRUST in the timing of His will.

Dr. Billy Graham once wrote, "Nothing turns us into bitter, selfish, dissatisfied people more quickly than an ungrateful heart. And nothing will do more to restore contentment and joy of our salvation than a true spirit of thankfulness." As we face challenge, it’s good to be reminded God IS with us. Even though our lives will change, God will not! His presence is constant. He opens our hearts and helps us welcome perfect peace.

God will guide and provides as we learn to trust in Him. He will help us recognize the blessings He’s already provided. If we open our hearts and welcome what He wants us to receive, He will help us learn how it feels to be grateful. God will always take care of each one of us. We must thank Him in ALL circumstances and never forget He knows what is best for our lives.

Dear God, Thank you for waking us in the presence of Your peace. Thank you for ALL You provide. We will trust in You ALL the days of our lives and gratefully remember to THANK YOU for ALL things.
